Wetland Delineation Technical Training Sessions

Wetland issues are becoming increasingly important in influencing area land use decisions, as is reflected by the number of state and federal regulations regarding wetlands today. Thus, the ability to recognize wetlands and perform basic delineations is a valuable tool in dealing with wetland issues.
In response to the need for educated regulators and consultants alike, SER offered both Basic and Advanced Wetland Delineation Training courses between 1993 and 1996.

The SER training staff included professionals experienced with the natural and regulatory environment of Minnesota and the Twin Cities metro area. We offered individualized instruction (class sizes under 15) and practical field training. The 3 to 4 day courses emphasized field techniques and relevant regulatory information in order to provide practical instruction in the science of delineation. Training manuals were produced that contained reference material the students could use in the future. Advanced courses covered topics such as problem soils, difficult and uncommon plant taxa, and hydrological determination in drained areas.

Knowledgeable instructors from SER, universities, and the public sector were assembled to provide thorough training in the often difficult and ambiguous field of wetland delineation. Courses taught by SER could be used as one of the prerequisites for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers delineator certification.
