Quality of Life Planning InitiativeTM Forum
|
This Mayors and Community Leaders Forum was held in St. Louis Park and Woodbury, Minnesota.
This unique public outreach event was organized in order to help community leaders and key staff
balance community growth with environmental, social, and economic values. Speakers from SER,
Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Minnesota Watershed Partnerships, and the City of
Shorewood presented information about defining visions, setting goals, and identifying strategies
for community growth.
|
The forum was sponsored by SER. SER staff organized the event, from contacting speakers and putting
together resource packets to reserving locations and organizing attendee information. Staff also
performed a presentation focusing on local perspectives of community based environmental planning,
why environmental planning is important, and how to perform it. This one day forum was given twice
to accommodate the number of participants interested in attending.
People involved in community planning were given a unique opportunity to learn about issues dealing with
community growth that are commonly overlooked: social, environmental, and economic impacts. They were
presented with tools they could use for balancing growth and values.
